Speaker of Kuwait’s National Assembly Marzouq Al-Ghanim (C) is welcomed back as a hero after his strong attack against the Israeli delegation during the five-day IPU conference

Kuwaiti ministers and MPs gathered at the Kuwaiti National Assembly on Wednesday to welcome Speaker Marzouq Al-Ghanim and his delegation upon their return from the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) conference which was held in Russia.

They praised Al-Ghanim for his strong attack against the Israeli delegation during the five-day IPU conference.

At the concluding session of the conference, which ended on Wednesday, Al-Ghanim slammed Israeli envoy Nachman Shai calling him an “occupier, child killer”.

“You should pack your bags and leave this chamber after seeing the reaction [to Israeli actions] from the honourable parliaments of the world,” Al-Ghanim said.

He added that the Israeli delegation “represents the most dangerous form of terrorism; state terrorism”.

Al-Ghanim’s strong words have drawn wide praise on Arabic social media platforms, with many commentators saying such criticism was long overdue.

The Knesset members immediately exited the conference after the hall erupted in applause following Al Ghanim’s comments.
