Lieberman: Hezbollah behind rockets launched from Syria

October 24, 2017 at 1:43 pm

Israeli Defence Minister Avigdor Lieberman said yesterday that Hezbollah was behind the five rockets which were launched from Syria towards occupied parts of the Golan Heights on Saturday, Palestine Online reported.

“We are not talking about spillover,” he said, “this is directed fire carried out by Hezbollah with [Syrian dictator Bashar] Assad’s permission, in an attempt to draw us into a conflict”.

Speaking during a factions meeting for his Jewish Home party in the Knesset, Lieberman said that Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah personally ordered the launch of the rockets towards Israel.

He said, according to Israeli media, that Israel holds Syria responsible for what happens in the territory under their control. “We want to say that we see Assad as responsible for any rocket fire from his territory,” Times of Israel reported him saying.

Lieberman called on Syria and Russia to restrain Hezbollah, which, he said, sought to “drag us into the Syrian swamp”.
