Sudanese authorities suspend publication of newspaper for two days

The Sudanese authorities suspended on Wednesday the publication of an independent local newspaper for two days for publishing a sarcastic article in October criticizing the harassment allegations against a Sudanese diplomat.

Editor of al-Jareeda newspaper, Majid al-Qouni told Anadolu news agency that the National Council for Press and Publications has suspended their newspaper for Thursday and Friday for publishing an article entitled “harassment exam”.

Al-Qouni said this is the second punishment faced by the newspaper for the same reason.

The Sudanese security authorities confiscated the newspaper’s editions on October 14, a day after the article was published.

The Sudanese authorities were not immediately available for comment.

On October 10, the Sudanese foreign ministry announced that it was investigating American media reports claiming a member of the Sudanese Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York for alleged “misconduct”.
