A number of Hamas officials led by Izzat Al-Rishq have arrived in Lebanon to meet Lebanese President Michel Aoun and a number of officials, Quds Press reported yesterday.

Speaking to Quds Press, Hamas’ representative in Lebanon, Ali Baraka, said the delegation would discuss the latest developments in the Palestinian arena and the internal reconciliation with the Lebanese officials.

Baraka said the delegation is presenting a message to the Lebanese leadership that Hamas cares about Lebanon’s security and civil peace and rejects the use of Palestinian refugee camps in the internal Lebanese conflicts.

“We are not a party of any internal Lebanese crisis and our eyes will continue looking only towards Jerusalem,” Baraka stressed.

He also said that his movement’s delegation had earlier met with the Director General of the Lebanese Internal Security Forces Major General Ibrahim Basbous, Mufti Abdul Latif Derian and the Secretary General of the Islamic Group in Lebanon Azzam Al-Ayoubi.

During the meetings, the Hamas delegation briefed the men on the latest developments in the Palestinian issue and particularly about the reconciliation agreement.

Barak pointed out that Hamas had arranged for a meeting with Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Al-Hariri, but the recent developments undermined the expected meeting.

Last Saturday, in a televised broadcast from Saudi Arabia, Lebanon’s prime minister unexpectedly resigned. Hariri blamed Iran and Hezbollah for his decision and alluded to information about an assassination plot against him.
