Egypt’s Sisi meets Tunisian prime minister in Cairo

The Egyptian President, Abdel Fattah al-Sisi met with the Prime Minister of Tunisia, Youssef Chahed in the capital, Cairo.

“The two sides have discussed the Libyan crisis and the importance of intensifying efforts to reach a solution that preserves the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Libya and reinforces its security and stability” the Egyptian presidency said in a statement.

The meeting was attended by Egyptian Prime Minister, Sharif Ismail and a number of ministers and senior officials from both sides. The meeting also discussed strengthening cooperation between the two countries.

This is the first visit by Chahed since his appointment in August 2016 to Cairo. Chahid arrived in Cairo to head the activities of the Egyptian-Tunisian Higher Committee.

The Tunisian prime minister welcomed “the importance of coordination and bilateral consultation and pushing the paths of political settlement of crises in the region”.

On November 4, Cairo announced its intention to host a tripartite meeting of Libya’s neighbouring countries namely, Egypt, Tunisia and Algeria to support efforts to achieve security and stability in Libya.
