Report: Number of victims of terrorist attacks globally drops

The number of victims killed in terrorist attacks worldwide dropped in 2016 for the second year in a row, a new study revealed.

The study by the Institute for Economics and Peace published yesterday revealed that 25,673 people were killed last year in terrorist attacks worldwide, a decline of 13 per cent compared to 2015 and 22 per cent compared to 2014.

In Europe, the study showed that the number of terrorism victims reached 826 in 2016.

According to the study a majority of terrorist activities occurred in Africa, the Middle East and Asia.

The number of victims killed in terrorist attacks in Pakistan, Syria and Afghanistan has fallen. However, the number of terrorism victims increased in Iraq by 40 per cent to reach 9,765 last year because of attacks carried out by Daesh, the study revealed.
