Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani has received a written invite to the Gulf summit scheduled to begin on Tuesday.

Kuwaiti Emir Sabah Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah, who is due to host the two-day event, extended the written invite to Al Thani. Al Jazeera quoted a Kuwaiti diplomat as saying: “Kuwait has completed its preparations to hold the Gulf summit on December 5 and 6. It has invited its Gulf neighbours and is waiting for their answer within the next two days.”

He pointed out that the summit will start as planned on time “right after the approval of all member states of the Gulf Cooperation Council.”

The summit, if held, will be a breakthrough in the Gulf crisis that has been continuing for six months.

Kuwait has been acting as mediator after Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain and Egypt cut diplomatic ties with Qatar on June. They accuse the small Gulf state of “supporting terrorism”, accusations Doha vehemently denies.
