Forces loyal to President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi were instructed to receive members from the General People’s Congress party who are fleeing the Houthi crackdown yesterday, Saba News reported.

“The Houthi militia has embarked on brutal atrocities against many senior figures and members of the General People’s Congress. As a result many of them have to flee their own areas in the provinces under the militia’s control,” Ahmed Obeid Bin Dagher, prime minister said.

“Some of them have lost their loved ones, you have to take all necessary measures to receive them and urgently draw up lists of their names so that their salaries may be paid or offer them assistance,” Dagher continued.

Hadi’s forces, alongside southern fighters, reportedly recaptured the coastal district of Al-Khoukha yesterday, located some 350 kilometres south-west of the capital, Sana’a. The Saudi-led coalition was also involved in the fierce fighting with the Houthi armed group.

After the killing of former president Ali Abdullah Saleh early this week by the Houthis, there has been a spike in violence across Sana’a and surrounding districts. The Saudi-led coalition has continued to support forces with air strikes.

Some remaining Saleh loyalists have joined Hadi’s ranks when they were called upon to “turn a new page and go hand-in-hand to end this vicious criminal gang”, in reference to the Houthis, early this week.
