We must maintain the legal status of Jerusalem in accordance with international accords, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi said yesterday.

Speaking during a meeting held in Cairo with the Russian President Vladimir Putin, Al-Sisi stressed the importance of “maintaining the legal status of Jerusalem within the framework of international rules and relevant UN resolutions”.

“I assured President Putin of the importance of maintaining the legal status of Jerusalem,” he said.

“We discussed the dangerous repercussions of such a decision [US’ recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital] on the security and stability of the region,” the Egyptian leader noted, stressing that the US decision on Jerusalem “complicates the situation in the region through measures that restrict the chances of peace in the region.”
