Head of Hamas Political Bureau Ismail Haniyeh said yesterday that his movement hopes that the Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC) will condemn US President Donald Trump’s decision that Jerusalem is Israel’s capital, the Anadolu Agency reported.

“We are waiting for the OIC to take a decision that matches the anger of the nations,” Haniyeh said, pointing out that the expected decision is “to reject the US recognition”.

The remarks came during a telephone call with the Iranian President Hassan Rouhani as the leaders discussed the US decision on Jerusalem and plans to move the American embassy to the holy city.

Haniyeh stressed, during the call, that the US decision is an “aggression on the Palestinian people and the Islamic nation”.

Uniting the Palestinian positions, as well as the Arab and Islamic positions will support the efforts to face the US decision and will support the Palestinian intifada.

Rouhani told Haniyeh that “Iran rejects this decision”, considering it the “peak of aggression by the world aggressive powers.”

He reiterated his country’s support for the Palestinians until they establish their “full state with Jerusalem as its capital”.

He stressed that Iran would hold back on efforts to reach a successful Islamic summit and get pro-Palestinian and Jerusalem resolutions.

Turkey called for an OIC meeting in Istanbul to discuss the US decision on Jerusalem. It will be held tomorrow.
