Thousands of Iranians, on Wednesday, staged pro-regime demonstrations in several cities across the country as ongoing anti-government protests continue.

The pro-regime protesters held banners demanding the prosecution of those they called “seditionist rioters.”

Commander of the Internal Security Forces, Brigadier General Hossein Ashtari, said strict orders were issued to all police leaders to deal firmly with those who target public facilities and cause chaos; and to monitor their movements on the ground and on social media.

He added that the police will not allow the targeting of citizens’ security; warning of what he called organised killings during the protests.

Additionally, Iranian Foreign Minister, Mohammad Javad Zarif, posted on his Twitter account that Iran’s security and stability depended on its people, unlike the people of some countries in the region which are close to US President Donald Trump who has no right to express opinion or object.

Anti-government protests erupted on Thursday last week in several Iranian cities to demand economic reforms and improved living conditions. However, the protests soon turned into violent clashes with the authorities; this led to the killing of tens of protesters and arrest of hundreds more.
