The Egyptian Foreign Ministry has rejected Turkey’s military operations in the city of Afrin in northwestern Syria.
In a statement issued yesterday the ministry described Turkish military operations in Syria as “a violation of Syrian sovereignty” which undermines efforts to find political solutions and combat terrorism in Syria.
The ministry has reiterated Egypt’s position which rejects military solutions which would increase the suffering of the brotherly Syrian people.

The statement called to involve all segments of the Syrian people in serious negotiations within a comprehensive political process without exclusion of any party, stressing the need to preserve Syrian sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The Turkish army announced on Saturday evening a military operation in the Syrian town of Afrin which is controlled by the Kurdish People’s Protection Units. The Turkish army dubbed the operation “Operation Olive Branch”.
