Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and French intelligence chief, Bernard Emie, on Monday discussed the ongoing crises in the Middle East.

In a statement, Egypt’s presidency spokesman Bassam Rady said that al-Sisi met in Cairo with the head of France’s foreign intelligence service in the presence of the acting Egyptian intelligence chief, Abbas Kamel.

During the meeting, the head of the French intelligence expressed his country’s keenness to coordinate and consult with their Egyptian counterparts on the various challenges facing the two countries, especially in light of the overall situation in the Middle East.

The meeting also discussed a number of issues concerning bilateral relations, as well as ways to strengthen international efforts to combat terrorism and extremism.

Last Thursday, al-Sisi, fired the head of the General Intelligence Service, Khalid Fawzi, from his post and appointed his chief of staff, Major General Abbas Kamel, as interim chief to run the agency, which is regarded as one of the most important intelligence services in the country.
