Saudi-led coalition air strike kills eight civilians

An air strike in north-west Yemen has killed eight civilians, including four children and two women, SABA News reported yesterday.

The air strike targeted a vehicle travelling in the Razih district, north-western Saada governorate, which is a Houthi stronghold. The incident comes off the back of a new offensive led by the Yemen national army in a bid to neutralise territorial threats posed by the Houthi group.

Internationally recognised president Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi’s forces entered the Razih district neighbouring Jizan region in south-west Saudi Arabia. Saudi Arabia continues to support the offensive in Saada by way of air strikes.

The Houthi group regularly executes ballistic missiles into southern Saudi Arabia, in particular the cities of Najran and Jizan.

The Saudi-led coalition entered the Yemen civil war in March 2015 upon the request of President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi. Since the killing of former president Ali Abdullah Saleh, the Houthi group have come under great military pressure in the western coast of Yemen, Taiz and Saada governorates.
