The Syrian opposition delegation yesterday withdrew from the Syrian Congress of National Dialogue in the Russian resort of Sochi and asked the Turkish delegation to represent it.

The Syrian Negotiation Commission (SNC) which arrived from Ankara decided not to attend the congress when they saw the Syrian regime flag at the airport and the conference venue. Instead, it asked the Turkish delegation to represent it.

More than 1,500 Syrians attended the conference.

“This conference will unify the Syrian people, after years of conflict in which hundreds of thousands of victims were killed, and we are doing our utmost efforts to bring peace to Syria,” Russian President Vladimir Putin said in a message to the conference.

“With the participation of Iran and Turkey, we have been working to establish de-escalation areas and prepare for reconstruction. The current conditions are suitable to end this painful page.” he added.
