Lebanese intelligence yesterday arrested a man they believed was the financial official for Daesh in Syria, security sources have said.

The sources added that the man is Syrian and was responsible for collecting money for Daesh in Syria’s north-eastern city of Abu Kamal before the regime and its allies recaptured the city from the group last November.

The defendant, named only as Saud, entered Lebanon through a legal border crossing near the country’s northern city of Tripoli using his brother’s documents. It was unclear when he entered the country and whether he was planning any militant activities, the sources noted.

Last August, Lebanese authorities said they had expelled Daesh elements from various areas they had controlled in eastern Lebanon near the borders with Syria.
