According to the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office, more than 100,000 British citizens live in the UAE, in addition to other 1.5 million who visit it each year. At first glance, they seem to be decently treated like tourists but the an investigation by Al-Araby TV revealed a different reality, in a programme broadcast tonight.

The Emirati Dream has turned into a nasty nightmare for many Britons, and the case is similar for an ordinary employee as it is for a businessman.

Many found themselves detained and interrogated for various reasons and faced inhumane treatment conditions during which various methods of torture were used and human rights violations were committed.

The investigation team documented the testimonies and stories of a large number of former and current prisoners in the UAE. Some of them left prison only after they had suffered; some others are either still locked behind prison walls or have lost their lives or have been subjected to severe torture.
