The head of the political bureau of the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement, Hamas, has sent a message to King Abdullah II of Jordan about the upcoming Arab summit in the Saudi capital Riyadh, which is scheduled for mid-April, Quds Press has reported.

Ismail Haniyeh expressed his gratitude and appreciation regarding Jordan’s honourable attitude in support of the Palestinian struggle and the just nature of the cause. He also praised the Jordanian monarch and his brothers, the Arab leaders, for making Palestine and the occupied city of Jerusalem the focus of the forthcoming summit.

The Hamas leader called on King Abdullah to adopt an Arab plan of action in order “to protect Palestine and the right of its people to resist the occupation and free their usurped land.” He added that he hopes to put the resolutions of the previous Arab summits regarding Palestine into action.

In his message, Haniyeh stressed the need to “reject all the enemy’s attempts to bypass Arab and international resolutions which support the cause of the Palestinian people and to protect Palestinian refugees by rejecting resettlement projects and the alternative homeland [proposal].”

Haniyeh also referred to the massacre that the Israeli occupation army committed last Friday in Gaza, which claimed the lives of at least 17 martyrs and wounded more than 1,400. He called for efforts to take the leaders of the occupation to international courts, and to corner them during every economic and political forum.

“The Palestinian people look at you with eyes full of confidence that you will support them in their battle to liberate the land and its holy places and establish an independent state with Jerusalem as its capital,” concluded the former Prime Minister of Palestine.
