The Municipality of Assisi and the Embassy of Palestine in Italy are preparing to organise an international conference for 28 Italian cities which have twinning agreements with the city of Bethlehem.

The mayor of Bethlehem and a number of municipal council members will participate in the conference which aims to activate the twinning agreements and propose projects to be implemented over the next four years.

The conference also aims to strengthen relations between the two sides and create new opportunities.

Some 90 people from 36 Italian municipalities and institutions will participate in the conference.

The conference will also see the signing of four new twinning agreements between the occupied West Bank city of Bethlehem and Italian cities.

The first twinning agreement between the city of Bethlehem and an Italian city was signed in 1962.
