Erekat: Palestine is not for sale

May 1, 2018 at 9:57 am

Secretary of the PLO’s Executive Committee Saeb Erekat reiterated yesterday that Palestinian is not for sale and the Palestinians’ rights will not be subjected to “suspicious” financial or political deals which are not based on international laws, Ma’an news reported.

Responding to US Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo’s recent remarks in Tel Aviv where he said America is persistent in bringing the Palestinians to the negotiating table, Erekat said the Palestinian stance is firm and US President Donald Trump has isolated himself from the peace process following his decision to recognise Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.

“How can peace be achieved while trying to exclude the issues of Jerusalem and refugees from negotiations?” he asked during a meeting with Swedish Minister of Foreign Affairs Annika Söder in

The occupied West Bank city of Ramallah.

“The US cannot be a mediator or partner in the peace process unless it withdraws its recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel as it is illogical to have a Palestinian state without East Jerusalem as its capital.”

“We seek a solution that guarantees resolving all of the final status issues, foremost the issue of refugees and prisoners, in accordance with relevant international resolutions… Washington has become part of the problem and not the solution,” Erekat added.
