Iraqi Prime Minister Haider Al-Abadi said yesterday that his government has succeeded in destroying a project to divide the country.

“The terrorist Daesh group succeeded in isolating the northern region from Iraq, and cut the road to it saying this is a real division, and seized the land by isolating the region,” Al-Abadi said.

“Iraq has faced the partition challenge. Many in the global media reported that Iraq has ended and that Daesh has control of some parts of it … We destroyed Daesh and then some wanted to divide the country by a referendum, and we destroyed the division and returned Kirkuk and other disputed areas to Iraq. This land is not for a specific nation or component, but for all Iraqis,” he added.
