A member in the Israeli Knesset, Eyal Ben Reuven has said that it is in Israel’s interest that the rule of the Syrian regime president, Bashar al-Assad continues.

“This is regrettable, but a realistic view of the complex situation shows that the stability of the murder Bashar Assad’s rule is pure Israeli interest” Israeli Maariv newspaper quoted Ben Reuven of the Zionist Union as saying.

The Israeli lawmaker also suggested that Iran’s removal from Syria is in the interest of Russia, the United States, Syria and Israel. He stressed that the Israeli battle, both politically and militarily, should continue to limit Iran’s threat to the region and Israel in particular.

Earlier this month, Israeli Energy Minister Yuval Steinitz said his country would liquidate Assad if he continued to allow Iran to work in Syria.

Last month, Israeli Housing Minister Yoav Galant said he believes that Assad’s departure from power will not solve all the problems stemming from the Syrian crisis.
