Egypt’s interior ministry has revealed information about the circumstances surrounded the attack on the motorcade of the former Security Chief in the country’s coastal province of Alexandria in March.
In an official statement, the ministry stressed that the assassination was carried out by elements of the so-called Hasm movement, adding that the state security were able to thwart the attempt in the city of El-Beheira, killing six of the assassins and seizing the weapons which were in their possession.
According to the ministry, one of the perpetrators, Moataz Mustafa Hassan, hid in an apartment in Alexandria where he was trained on using weapons and making explosive devices.
Investigations found that Hassan had planted the car bomb and left the car at the site of the bombing.
