Morocco’s governing coalition partners held an emergency meeting on Friday at the house of Prime Minister Saad Eddine El-Othmani to discuss the latest developments in the country. According to Almaghribtoday.net, these included the lengthy prison sentences given to Al-Reef detainees, the 3-year-sentence given to journalist Hameed Al-Mahdawi and other issues which have emerged following the unprecedented number of protests across the country.
The news website reported that most Moroccan cities witnessed demonstrations on Thursday against the prison sentences. Protesters called for the release of all civil activists from prison and the annulment of their sentences.
Activists posted pictures and videos online showing the demonstrations in Al-Hoceima and other cities, including Rabat and Casablanca.
