Gaza welcomes 4,000 newborns in June

Some 3,996 babies were born in the besieged Gaza Strip in June, the Ministry of Interior revealed.

In statistics issued yesterday the ministry added that 280 people died in the same period, at a rate of approximately nine people per day compared to a birth rate which averaged 132 newborns a day.

Fifty-three per cent of those born were male, amounting to 2,108 boys compared to 1,858 girls born that month.

The number of males who died was also higher reaching 160 last month, making up 57 per cent of all death in June.

In May, the number of girls born in exceeded that of boy with 59 per cent of registered birth being of girls, according to previously released figures.
