Palestinian Authority (PA) President Mahmoud Abbas has rejected offers of mediation from around the world to lift sanctions he has imposed on the Gaza Strip, Shehab.ps reported yesterday.

Shehab quoted Israeli TV Channel 11 as saying that Abbas was put under pressure to ease the economic situation in Gaza, but he did not.

The TV station said envoys from around the world asked Abbas to allow money transfers to the Gaza Strip but he said that he intends to continue with his sanctions until Hamas hands over complete control of the enclave.

“PA officials in Ramallah told an Israeli radio station that they might declare the UN envoy to the region a persona non grata should he continued proposing programmes to improve the economic situation in Gaza before ensuring it is controlled by the PA,” the channel said.
