A senior commander of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said on Wednesday that the Guards are ready to implement a policy that would block regional oil exports if the United States blocked Iranian oil sales.

On Tuesday, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, threatened to block oil shipments from neighbouring countries if Washington went ahead with its goal of forcing all countries to stop buying Iranian oil.

Major General, Qassem Soleimani praised Rouhani’s statements and said he was ready to implement such a policy if necessary.

“I kiss your hand for making such wise statements that came on time, and I am at your service to implement any policy that serves the Islamic Republic” said Soleimani, commander of external operations in the Iranian Revolutionary Guards referring to Rouhani.

Rouhani did not elaborate, but Iranian officials threatened in the past to close the Strait of Hormuz, a major shipping route in response to any hostile action by the United States against Iran.
