More than half of those unemployed in Saudi Arabia are university graduates, official statistics have revealed.

Saudi Arabia’s General Authority for Statistics has recently stated that more than half of unemployed Saudi citizens hold a bachelor’s degree, Khaleej Online reported.

The majority of unemployed Saudis are women, making up 76 per cent of those looking for jobs.

The unemployment rate has increased in the country, reaching 12.9 per cent in the first quarter of 2018 compared to 12.7 per cent during the same period last year, the Daily Star reported.

The increase in unemployment comes a time when expatriate workers are leaving the country in large numbers as a result of taxes imposed on them and a number of other measured imposed to reduce the number of foreign workers so as to offer more opportunities to Saudi citizens.
