UNRWA yesterday denied reports it plan to cut the salaries of 22,000 of its employees in the Gaza Strip, Safa News Agency reported.
In a statement issued by its official spokesman Sami Musha’sha, UNRWA denied what it called “false reports” and stressed they were “incorrect.”
“The Union of UNRWA’s Employees issued a statement yesterday [Tuesday] claiming that we are planning to cut salaries of 22,000 employees and to stop all assistance programmes in the Gaza Strip,” Musha’sha said.
“This claim is false and the leadership of the Employees’ Union in Gaza must not publish incorrect information as this causes instability among the employees and their families,” the statement said.
In addition, the statement said that the General Director of the UNRWA met with union members and briefed them about the challenges facing the organisation and the efforts to solve the budget crisis in order sustain refugee services.
