Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said the Syrian regions of Afrin, Jarabulus and Al-Bab are the only areas where “things are moving in the right direction”.

The president made the remarks during a press conference held yesterday at the Ankara Esenboga Airport before heading to South Africa to attend the BRICS group summit.

Erdogan said he will discuss the situation in Daraa and Idlib with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, on the sidelines of the summit.

Erdogan has recently discussed with his US counterpart, Donald Trump, the application of the joint roadmap for the cities of Manbij in Aleppo, during which he stressed that the plan would contribute significantly to reviving cooperation aimed at resolving the Syrian issue. The 10th BRICS Summit began yesterday and is due to end tomorrow. Russia, China, India, Brazil and South Africa are taking part in the meetings.
