Sudanese President Omar Al-Bashir on Monday inaugurated the country’s first specialised unit to investigate cases of corruption.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Al-Bashir said he was giving personal attention to anti-corruption cases, adding that corruption affects both the state and society, therefore the state has enacted a lot of laws to strengthen the role of the state comptroller.

Director of Sudan’s National Intelligence and Security Service (NISS), Salah Abdullah Qosh said “the unit includes staff delegated from the office of the state comptroller, the Central Bank, the judiciary, the Attorney General, the Tax Bureau, and the Customs Authority who will work together with the  National Intelligence and Security Service officers.”

Earlier in April, the Sudanese president said in a speech before parliament that he has declared war on corruption in the country.
