A Hamas delegation led by deputy head of the political bureau of the movement, Saleh Al-Arouri, arrived in the besieged Gaza Strip late yesterday.
The officials, who travelled through the Rafah crossing with Egypt, are to discuss progress on forming a unity government with Fatah and other Palestinian factions and the end of the siege on Gaza.
No details have been released about the length of the delegation’s visit to the Strip.
Gaza has been stifled by a 12-year-old Israeli siege which has limited the supplies of humanitarian aid, construction materials and fuel. Israeli Defence Minister Avigdor Lieberman banned the entry of gas and fuel in to the Strip yesterday until further notice further exacerbating the humanitarian situation for the two million residents of the coastal enclave.
