The Sudanese government yesterday received a plan drawn out by France’s Airbus plane manufacturer to rescue its ailing national carrier over the next 10 years.

Sudanese Minister of Transport, Roads and Bridges, Makkawi Mohammed Al-Awad said during a press conference that he held a meeting with representatives from the French company. He said they had expressed hope that Sudan Air will regain its global position after years of absence.

The minister said the country’s project with Airbus is a step towards development and competition for international airlines, adding that the plan includes a number of options whether through partnership or sale.

Sudan Air recently dismissed 1,200 employees of its staff of 1,571 as part of its restructure.
