Member of Fatah’s Central Committee Azzam Al-Ahmad said yesterday that the potential truce agreement between Israel and Palestinian factions in Gaza is “treason”, local media reported.

“The truce agreement being discussed between Israel and the Palestinian factions in Gaza is betrayal for the Palestinian people and their national cause,” Al-Ahmad, who is the head of Fatah bloc in the Palestinian parliament.

Speaking to Palestine Voice radio, he said: “What is going on in Cairo is not negotiations, but a festival to announce an agreement.”

He said he had informed the Egyptians not to announce the truce during the meeting of the PLO’s Central Council.

“The Palestinian leadership,” Al-Ahmad said, “has no time for such useless festivals,” noting that any truce must be agreed with the PLO.
