Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas yesterday stressed the Palestinian people’s support for Turkey during its ongoing dispute with the US.

In a phone to President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Abbas hoped Turkey would “overcome this crisis as soon as possible”, a PA statement said.

The call came as the Turkish lira dropped to record lows in the wake of the ongoing tension between Ankara and Washington.

Last Friday, US President Donald Trump announced that taxes would be raised on iron and aluminum imports from Turkey.

In response, Turkey raised taxes on most US imports, including vehicles, cosmetics and cigarettes.
