Arab MKs in Europe to lobby support against Israel’s ‘nation-state law’

A delegation of Arab Knesset members from the Joint List yesterday headed for the European Union in order to lobby support for a possible UN resolution to condemn Israel following the passing of the “nation-state bill” last month.

“We are going to Brussels to ask Europe to be faithful to its principles regarding the rights of minorities and human rights,” MK Jamal Zahalka said in a statement.

Zahalka rejected criticism by Israeli political circles saying “they have declared war on us and on our rights through the Jewish nation-state law. We have the right to defend ourselves with the international community’s help.”

We, as a minority, are in danger and demand protection.

Israeli media revealed that the Arab Knesset members have cooperated with Palestinian parties, including Palestinian Authority Ambassador to the United Nations, Riyad Mansour, to present a draft resolution condemning Israel following the passing of the controversial law.

The sources said the lawmakers have met with UN officials describing the legislation as an “apartheid law”.
