September 4, 2018 at 10:53 am

Egypt’s tax evasion court has postponed the trial of former footballer Mohamed Aboutrika to 24 September.

Aboutrika has been charged with tax evasion to the tune of 710,000 Egyptian pounds ($39,626) which he made through advertisements for a soft drinks company and a telecommunications company

OPINION: Popularity of any kind is a curse in Egypt, as Mo Salah is finding out

Having endorsed the Muslim Brotherhood in elections, Aboutrika had his assets seized after being accused of funding the movement, which is now designated as a terrorist organisation in Egypt. Aboutrika himself was placed on a “terrorist” list last year by the Egyptian authorities. He was removed from the list in June this year.
