PA: We are not targetting Hamas members in West Bank

The Palestinian Authority yesterday denied that it is targeting and arresting Hamas members in the occupied West Bank.

Security forces spokesman, Adnan Dumairi, said: "The arrest of any person is always based on legal grounds and not on a political background or opinion."

He accused Hamas of "spreading rumours around".

"They [Hamas] should better allow Gazans to express their support to President Mahmoud Abbas," he added.

Hamas recently reported that the PA's security forces have carried out several arrests against dozens of the group's members in various areas of the West Bank.

The arrests were reported to have included university students as well as several Palestinian prisoners who were recently released from Israeli jails.
