Yousef: Kuwait continues to play an historical role in support of Palestine

Head of the Popular International Committee to Support Gaza, Dr Essam Yousef, said that the state of Kuwait is always at the forefront of alleviating the suffering of the Palestinian people.

In a press release issued today, Yousef said that the relationship between the Kuwaiti and Palestinian brotherly nations is unique given Kuwait’s support for the struggle of the Palestinian people to regain their usurped rights.

He added: “The Kuwaiti people have taken initiative and provided humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people since the beginning of the century, especially during the 1920s. The Kuwaitis then embraced the Palestinians in their revolution in the mid-1960s.”

“Kuwait’s political and humanitarian support for the Palestinian cause has continued over the past decades, even in the most difficult stages of the issue,” he said.

Yousef noted that the speech made by the Kuwaiti National Assembly Speaker Marzouq Al-Ghanim at the IPU Conference in Geneva, Switzerland, yesterday expresses Kuwait’s continued qualitative support for the Palestinian cause despite the difficult political circumstances that the cause is experiencing in light of the events taking place in the region.

He expressed his appreciation and gratitude for Al-Ghanim’s position, which expresses the sincerity of the Kuwaiti people, the wisdom of his leadership, and the Kuwaiti people’s adherence to the principles of morality and Arabism, which stand firmly with the justice of the Palestinian cause. The Kuwaitis also insist on supporting the right of the Palestinian people to return and establish a Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital.

“Al-Ghanim’s bold position is not the first of its kind, as we cannot forget his courageous remarks made in the face of the Israeli Knesset representative during the IPU meeting in Russia last year, describing him as a child-killer and demanding that he leave the hall.”

During his speech at the IPU conference in Geneva yesterday, Al-Ghanim criticised the occupation’s policies and violations against the Palestinians, saying: “The Palestinians have been seeking peace for over 50 years only to be rewarded by rockets and artillery.”
