Egypt’s prisons department at the country’s interior ministry has formed a number of committees to determine cases of prisoners who deserve presidential pardons and conditional releases as part of a recent move that was initiated by the country’s President, Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, local media reported yesterday.

Sisi recently issued a decree no 455/2018 which stipulated on granting prisoners a reduction in their sentences they serve on the occasion of the 45th anniversary of October 6 victory.

The ministry’s committees have decided to pardon 448 prisoners while granting parole to 354 others, under which they will be subject to observation for a designated period of time.
