Hamas: PA president undermining reconciliation efforts

October 25, 2018 at 11:08 am

Member of Hamas Political Bureau Hossam Badran said yesterday that Palestinian Authority (PA) President Mahmoud Abbas has undermined all efforts being exerted to reach internal reconciliation, Al-Khaleej Online reported.

Badran said that Abbas’ treatment of internal Palestinian issues led to the reconciliation not reaching “any real progress on the ground”.

He also said that Abbas’ persistence to rule out all the Palestinian factions and monopolise the national decision was the “main reason that undermined any official agreement” including those brokered by Egypt.

“All the different sides involved in the reconciliation recognise that Hamas had made all the needed concessions for the sake of reaching a reconciliation, but Abbas’ policy undermined all the efforts.”

The senior Hamas leader noted that the internal reconciliation must be built on a “real national partnership and full commitment to the previous agreements at the top of which is the one signed in 2011 in Cairo.”
