Twelve cases of swine flu have been recorded in the besieged Gaza Strip, spokesman for Hamas-run government, Salameh Maarouf, said yesterday.

According to the official, six of the 12 patients have died as a result of the infection, warning that the Ministry of health does not have the medicines needed to treat the virus.

The ministry announced yesterday that it had recorded “several cases of influenza caused by different types of viruses, leading to an outbreak of seasonal influenza and a number of deaths.”

The ministry said the recorded cases are within the normal “seasonal prevalence rate” of the disease.
