Israel’s High Court held a hearing on Monday to discuss the eviction orders imposed on Palestinian homes in Sheikh Jarrah, a neighbourhood in occupied Jerusalem, Arab48.com has reported.

An Israeli settler NGO, backed by the occupation government, has claimed the ownership of the land on which the homes are built. The group has been working on having the residents evicted from their homes and has already taken over several Palestinian homes and set up settlement outposts.

According to media reports, the NGO and others like it have applied to build apartment blocks for illegal Jewish in the Palestinian neighbourhood. At least one member of the Israeli-run Jerusalem Municipality, Arie King, has supported most of the Jewish settlement projects in the holy city and stands beside this NGO on the latest project.

Previously, settler NGOs have stolen Palestinian homes in Karm Al-Mufti in Jerusalem and built 25 settlement units and a synagogue by the name of Friend Shimon. This neighbourhood, which has long been a Palestinian area, is now protected by Israeli law.
