A Palestinian youth was injured yesterday evening after being run over by an Israeli settler east of the southern occupied West Bank city of Bethlehem.

Locals told Ma’an that 19-year-old Muhammed Mahmoud Odeh Ghazal, from the Kisan village east of Bethlehem, was hit by an Israeli settler’s car while walking on the main road near the Al-Minya village crossroads.

Al-Minya is adjacent to the illegal Israeli settlement of Ma’ale Amos.

Ghazal was transferred to the Beit Jala Governmental hospital for treatment. He was reported to have sustained bruising and multiple injuries across his body.

Between 500,000 and 600,000 Israelis live in Jewish-only settlements across occupied East Jerusalem and the West Bank in violation of international law, with recent announcements of settlement expansion provoking condemnation from the international community.

The Palestinian government has no jurisdiction over Israelis in the West Bank, and violent acts carried out by Israeli settlers often occur in the presence of Israeli military forces who rarely act to protect Palestinian residents.

The majority of settler attacks committed against Palestinians are met with impunity.
