The Lebanese army asserted that it will not tolerate any attempts aimed at stirring up an atmosphere of sedition and chaos in the country.

This came after calls for demonstration were raised throughout the country in protest against what has been described as the “deteriorating economic and living conditions.”

In a statement released yesterday, the Lebanese army’s leadership called on citizens who intend to take part in the upcoming protests to express their opinions peacefully and not to hinder people’s movements in public areas.

“Freedom of expression as well as peaceful demonstration and the freedom of responsible media are sacred within the legal framework. The basic task undertaken by the army is to protect constitutional institutions and public as well as private property, in addition to ensuring the security and safety of Lebanese citizens,” the statement added.

Lebanon’s military command stressed that the army will take all necessary measures against any person who breaches security codes or makes intrusive attempts to change the nature of the protest and divert the demonstrations from their real track in order to undermine the sovereignty of the security apparatus and provoke riots and chaos in the country.
