At least 32,000 Syrian civilians staying in tents along the Turkish-Syrian border are awaiting humanitarian aid following heavy rains which recently hit the area, Anadolu Agency reported yesterday, quoting local sources.

The Syria Intervention Coordinators Union (SYRCU) – local NGO devoted to helping civilians – said that some 22 refugee camps were flooded and 67 were badly affected, due to “torrential heavy rains” on 26 December.

The rains, SYRCU added, have caused the demolition of at least 220 tents and the flood of 550 others.

Syria has been witnessing a bloody civil war since early 2011 when the Bashar Al-Assad regime cracked down on protesters with unexpected ferocity.
