A senior Islamic Jihad delegation yesterday met Bouthaina Shaaban, the political and media advisor of Syrian Regime President Bashar Al-Assad, a statement said.

The delegation included the member of Islamic Jihad Khalid Al-Batch from Gaza, Abu-Mujahid, the coordinator of the Islamic Jihad in Syria and Abu-Atef, who is in charge of the movement’s public relations.

Al-Batch spoke about the US’ peace deal for the Middle East known as the “deal of the century” and the importance of mobilising Arab and Islamic efforts to undermine it, including the role of the Syrian Republic.

He also highlighted the Syrian support for the Palestinian people and resistance, as well as the importance of supporting the “Great March of Return” protests.

Shaaban spoke about the importance of the Palestinian cause for the Syrian regime, which places the issue on top of its priorities.

She also hailed the “Great March of Return” and the achievements and success of the protests, which undermined the American agenda in the region.

The Syrian official reiterated the regime’s readiness to support to the protests adding that Syrian hospitals are open to treat Palestinians wounded during the protests.

Palestinians in Gaza launched popular protests on 30 March last year, demanding an end to Israel’s 11-year blockade of the Gaza Strip, which has gutted the coastal enclave’s economy and deprived its more than two million inhabitants of basic amenities.

They also called for their “right of return” to their homes and villages in historical Palestine from which they were driven in 1948 to make way for the creation of the state of Israel.
