Egypt’s Consumer Protection Agency (CPA) announced yesterday that it has renewed the contract of an Egyptian satellite service which includes the Qatari channel beIN Sport.

In a post on Facebook the agency wrote: “Regarding the complaints received by the agency and inquiries about beIN Sport channels. The problem has been completely fixed and all the joint channels are currently operational as the beIN Sport contract has been renewed for two years.”

beIN Sport had announced to its subscribers the suspension of its service in Egypt on Tuesday as a result of authorities’ inaction in renewing the satellite channel’s contract.

Egypt is amongst a number of Arab countries which launched a boycott of Qatar in June 2017 accusing the small Gulf state of supporting  terrorism. Doha has repeatedly denied the accusations and said it’s sovereignty is being attacked.

As part of the action, which include Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and the UAE, Qatari news channel Al Jazeera has been banned in boycotting countries.
