Bahrain court upholds death penalty against 2 terrorism suspects

The Bahraini Court of Cassation yesterday upheld the death penalty against two people and the imprisonment of 20 others on charges of establishing and funding a terrorist group.

The 22 defendants were charged with “murdering police officers and attempting to murder others, possession of explosive devices, training in the use of weapons and explosives for terrorist purposes, harbouring fugitives and others”.

In October, last year the Supreme Court of First Instance upheld the death penalty against two people and sentencing others to various prison terms for murdering two policemen in July 2015.

The court acquitted two people, revoked the citizenship of eight others and fined seven 6,040 dinars ($16,064).
