Hamas leader Khalil Al-Hayya said on Thursday that the movement is ready to hold presidential and legislative elections in Gaza, the West Bank and Jerusalem.

Al-Hayya asserted: “We proposed to the election commission delegation to hold legislative and presidential elections and to hold the National Council elections later, and we hope that President Abbas will respond to our vision.”

The head of the Hamas political bureau, Ismail Haniyeh, met Thursday with the head of the Palestinian Central Elections Committee, Hanna Nasser, in his office in the city of Gaza.

Nasser said that he had heard positive remarks from Hamas, regarding the elections, pointing out that they will be transferred to President Mahmoud Abbas, according to Al Aqsa Voice radio.

Talks between Haniyeh and Nasser, who arrived in the Gaza Strip on Wednesday through the Erez (Beit Hanoun) crossing, focused on the elections.

The Supreme Constitutional Court in Ramallah issued a decision last December to dissolve the Legislative Council and called for legislative elections within six months.

The decision was strongly opposed by the Palestinian factions, headed by Hamas, while Fatah and the Palestinian Authority confirmed that this decision would contribute to ending the 12-year division.
